Mickey Moss Mickey Moss Time stood still on the playing clock in the fourth quarter Friday night while Southside Christian moved perilously closer to scoring the tying touchdown in Blacksburg’s final regular season game.

A comfortable 27-7 third quarter Blacksburg lead had vanished on a pair of touchdown runs by Southside Christian quarterback Thaddeus Morgan and running back Jared Lane.

With a malfunctioning clock, Blacksburg’s Treyvon Parker intercepted Morgan at the 8- yard line to preserve a 27-20 victory over Southside Christian in the regular season finale.

Parker ran the ball twice for six yards as the Wildcats ran out the last 1:16 showing on the scoreboard.

The heart-stopping ending came after Blacksburg appeared in control of the game with a 27-7 lead entering the fourth quarter. Blacksburg running back Raymond Ellis got the Wildcats started with a 5-yard touchdown run in the first quarter to finish off a 71-yard drive.

Southside Christian countered with a 28-yard run by Chris Luke to tie the game at 7. Blacksburg running back Chase Hames scored on runs of 39- and 1- yards as the Wildcats jumped out to a 19-7 halftime lead.

Blacksburg defensive lineman Brett Lanier recovered a fumble to set up Hames’ second touchdown run.

Scrambling away from pressure, Parker threw a 40-yard touchdown strike to Ellis for a 27-7 lead with 3:52 left in the third quarter. Parker hit wide receiver Marquel Palmer for a 15-yard two point conversion pass after the Wildcats were penalized for holding on the first conversion attempt.

Despite the win, Blacksburg (3-7 overall) did not qualify for the playoffs. Lewisville beat North Central, 41-0, Friday night to edge the Wildcats for a playoff berth.

Blacksburg coach Mickey Moss was encouraged about the team’s progress during his second year at his alma mater. He cited the development of ninth grade players like Parker and linebacker Ethan Snipes, who led the team in tackles against Southside Christian.

“We played a lot of youngsters and are building a program here. This is a great bunch of kids. Our coaching staff has really enjoyed working with these kids,” Moss said.
