The Gaffney Police Department is investigating an Oct. 26 incident during which an unknown man shoplifted about $600 in cigarettes by stuffing them down his pants.
According to a police report, security cameras captured the unknown man reach behind the counter nine separate times while the clerk was distracted at the Petro Express on West Floyd Baker Boulevard at 10:37 a.m.
Police said the man had come into the store to pay for gas being pumped by a female who remained outside. The man allegedly stuffed 13 cartons of cigarettes down his pants and then walked out of the store, where he was picked up.
The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office reported the theft of a truck on Swofford Ridge Road in Chesnee.
According to a police report, someone took a 2000 Ford F-150 truck from a property in the 300 block between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m. Oct. 28.
The burgundy-colored truck is valued at $7,500.
The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the robbery of a 61-year-old woman who was assaulted after agreeing to give two young men a ride in her car.
According to a police report, the incident occurred Nov. 2 at about 6:30 a.m. near Victory Trail Road and Cherokee Avenue.
The victim told police that two unknown men, approximately 16 to 20 years-old, had asked her for a ride.
When she arrived at the Victory Trail Road intersection, one of the young men struck her in the head, jumped out of the vehicle and took her purse.
The woman told police both young men had been “nice and very polite” before the robbery occurred.
The purse and contents are valued at $50.
A thief or thieves who broke into a car and stole a purse and cell phone subsequently used the phone to send taunting text messages to the victim.
According to the Gaffney Police Department, the vehicle break-in occurred in the 300 block of North Petty Street between 11:45 p.m. Oct. 31 and 3:30 a.m. Nov. 1.
The owner of a cell phone that was taken from the car subsequently sent a text message to her own phone, asking for the return of the stolen items. The alleged thief or thieves responded by using the stolen phone to send back photographs and lewd messages.
The Gaffney Police Department reported the attempted burglary of a South Logan Street store.
According to police, someone tossed a concrete block through a store at 406 S. Logan St. to gain entry. An alarm sounded when the glass broke.
The burglar fled the scene without taking anything.
Damage is estimated at $300.
The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office reported an act of vandalism on Henry Drive in Blacksburg.
According to a police report, someone put sugar in the gas tank of a 2005 Dodge parked in the 100 block between 11:30 p.m. Oct. 30 and 5 p.m. Nov. 1.
Damage to the vehicle is estimated at $1,500.
A burglar or burglars took almost $1,000 in personal possessions from a Pondfield Road home.
According to the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, the burglary occurred in the 200 block between Sept. 29 and Oct. 31.
The resident was in the process of moving and the thief or thieves took a tool box and several boxes of personal belongings.
A vandal caused an estimated $600 in damage to a car on Freeport Drive.
According to the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, someone threw a brick through the window and slashed all four tires on a 1997 Cadillac parked in the 100 block between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. on Nov. 1.
More than $1,000 in property was reported stolen following the Oct. 30 burglary of a Providence Creek Road home.
According to the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, someone forced entry to a home in the 100 block between 6:45 a.m. and 10:15 a.m. and took a 32- inch Sylvania flat screen television and all the change out of a glass jug. Police said the jug was taken into evidence for processing.
A hit-and-run incident resulted in about $3,000 in damage to a parked truck.
According to the Gaffney Police Department, a truck parked at a West Floyd Baker Boulevard auto parts store was struck on Nov. 2 at about 3:40 p.m. The truck was damaged on the passenger side.
