By TIM GULLA Ledger Staff Writer tim@gaffneyledger.com

A man was taken into custody in the area of Marion Avenue and North Logan Street. A man was taken into custody in the area of Marion Avenue and North Logan Street. A man was taken into custody Thursday afternoon on an unlawful weapon charge after he allegedly fired shots from a handgun during a fight in the city.

Police were still investigating the matter at press time. The second person involved in the incident had not yet been found. Police said it was unclear if anyone had been struck.

Gaffney Police Chief Rick Turner, who did not yet have a written report from the investigating officer when contacted, said the man with the gun claimed he was approached and then assaulted by another man who was armed with a knife.

The man allegedly admitted firing shots from a handgun to scare the other man away, Turner said.

The incident occurred in the area of Marion Avenue and North Logan Street. Police subsequently called paramedics to Marion Avenue because the man taken into custody had suffered lacerations.
