Tours, parlor music and a little porch pickin’ highlight Sunday afternoon at Hicks homeplace
The old Hicks homeplace in Chesnee will be alive with activities Sunday afternoon as the Cherokee County History and Arts Museum hosts an open house from 1:30-5:30.
The Cherokee County History and Arts Museum will host an open house at the old Hicks homeplace in Chesnee on Sunday, Nov 8, from 1:30-5:30 p.m.
The Hicks homeplace is rich in history. It is one of the first homes in the Chesnee area and is listed on the National Registry. The Hicks family is well known for its musical talents and instruction, and the old home is known through several generations as being the place to gather for acoustic music.
The event will feature house tours, inside parlor music and two bluegrass bands, Lawson's Fork Creek and HomeSpun Bluegrass, who will perform some porch pickin’ bluegrass and bluegrass gospel during the afternoon.
The big white two-story house is located at intersection of Hwy. 221N and Oconee Street, about one mile outside of Chesnee on Hwy. 221 North toward Forest City, N.C. The intersection is also known as "five forks" in the area.
