Greer issues statement

Clay Greer Clay Greer I am a Democratic candidate for County Council District 7 in the primary election that will be held on Tuesday, November 10. I’m a lifelong resident of Cherokee County, and have been employed for the past 10 years with the Town of Blacksburg. During the past 18 years, I have served my neighbors and the community as a member of the Blacksburg Volunteer Fire Department, where I have served at different times as a Fireman, Lieutenant, Assistant Chief, and Fire Chief. At the present time, I’m still working as a volunteer fireman with the Blacksburg Volunteer Fire Department. I’m running for County Council District 7 because I want to contribute to the quality of life in our community, and I want every citizen in Council District 7 to have a voice in our local government.

I want all of my fellow community members to know that I stand for the following issues, and I give you my solemn promise that I will work tirelessly with other members of the county council to try to get these things done for the betterment of our community.

1. County Council should continue to keep our property taxes as low as possible, while still maintaining strong law enforcement, fire protection, well-maintained safe roads, and other necessary county services.

2. We need more new jobs in Cherokee County. Members of County Council, Blacksburg and Gaffney City Councils, and the Cherokee County Development Board need to join together and “brainstorm” new ideas about how to attract new businesses and industries. A special committee should be formed, with members from these groups as well as some knowledgeable citizens from Cherokee County. This new committee should meet regularly and continuously work on new ideas about how to attract new businesses and industries, regardless of how big or how small they are. Every new job counts!

3. More resources from the Cherokee County Parks & Recreation Department need to be made available for young people in the Blacksburg area such as football facilities and better equipped parks for young children.

4. I will make myself available at all times to talk with members of the public about things that we need in Cherokee County.

Please consider voting for me for County Council District 7 on Tuesday, November 10. In return, I promise you that I will always work for the best interests of everyone in our community.

Sincerely, Juston “Clay” Greer
