VA officer seeking Pearl Harbor survivors

Cherokee County Veterans Affairs Officer Todd Humphries is seeking any survivors of Pearl Harbor to attend an upcoming memorial service in Charleston.

On Dec. 7, the anniversary of the 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor, a memorial service will be held aboard the U.S.S. Yorktown, docked at Patriots Point.

Humphries will be laying a wreath at the memorial service.

“I’m trying to find out if we have any Pearl Harbor survivors in Cherokee County,” he said. “I’d like them to attend the memorial service with me in Charleston.

The Veterans Affairs Office will handle transportation for any Pearl Harbor survivors who wish to make the trip. Several World War II veterans from Cherokee County will be making the trip as well.
