Mac George

Retired from City of York Police Dept.

YORK – Moroni Taylor “Mac” George, 84 ½, of 17 Georgia Ave., went to his heavenly home on Nov. 3, 2009, at Wayne T. Patrick Hospice House in Rock Hill.

Mac was a Native American Indian of York County (Catawba Tribe) and son of the late Moroni James and Hattie Milling George. He retired in May 1987 from the City of York Police Deptartment after 23 years of service.

A U.S.

Navy veteran

of World War II and a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, he was a former wrestler in 1957, known as Chief Yellowbird. He was a former member of the Indian Beagle Club and former volunteer with the York Fire Deptartment.

Surviving are his wife of 64 ½ years, Evelyn McAbee George; a son, Eddie Mac George and wife, Jackie, of York; grandchildren, Tige, Megan and Amanda George; great-grandchildren, Brooklyn, Hayley and Clarklyn George, Chase “Stitch” Brown and Aden Faulkenberry; five stepgrandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Bertha G. Harris of Rock Hill and Margaret G. Smith of Moore; and two special people whom he loved and cared about as a daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Steve McNeely.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Clark (T.C.) in 2005; a grandson, Taylor George; a great-grandson, Colby Brown; and a brother and five sisters, Claude George, Reina G. Caponis, Artie Canty, Etta G. Teaster, Missouri G. Brindle and Leola G. Brown.

Services will be held Friday, Nov. 6, at 2 p.m. at Bratton Funeral Home, 1455 Filbert Hwy., York, conducted by Pastor Lee Teal and Pastor James Erle. Burial will be in Union Baptist Church Cemetery, Filbert.

Visitation was held Thursday, Nov. 5, from 6-8 p.m. at Bratton Funeral Home.

The family is at the home of his son and daughter-in-law, Eddie and Jackie George, 42 Okalahoma St., York.
