‘Rebel Without A Cause’ comes to GLT stage
Alexis Turner
“There was no generation gap before Rebel Without a Cause.”
That statement could have been a lurid headline for the famous 1955 film, presented on stage this week by the Gaffney Little Theatre.
The stage adaptation of Rebel Without a Cause is a three-act play, performed with a minimum of sets, and relies on lighting, a few props and the actors’ abilities to tell its story.
Rebel Without a Cause is the story of 1950s teenagers in a Los Angeles suburb – teenagers looking for love, looking for family and looking for any kind of thrill. With its hot rods, switchblades and leather jackets, Rebel has served as the blueprint for teenage rebellion for over 50 years, and the GLT cast will appropriately include a gang of several young newcomers to the local theatre scene.
In his first role on the GLT stage, John Yelton plays Jim Stark, the good-hearted but troubled teenager trying to find his place in a new town. Savannah White is Judy, the girl who eventually befriends Jim, and Madeline Clough is Plato, the gentle but unstable boy that looks to Jim for support.
Ali Henderson
The gang in the play includes firsttimers Jeff McGinnis, Justin Ramirez, Jordan Radcliff and Alexis Turner, along with GLT veterans Chris McGraw and Grace Wylie. Jim’s parents are played by Mike Dobbins and Karen Lavender.
The cast also includes Andy Chace, Ed Clough, Marcia Duncan, Ali Henderson, John Henderson, Katie Johnson, Lydia Lemmons, Richard Porter, Ronn Radcliff, Morgan Robinson and Lisa Robinson.
Directors are LaDonna White and John Henderson. Cindy Johnson will handle the lights and sound, and Katie Johnson is the stage manager.
The play will be presented November 12-14 at 7:30 p.m., with a matinee on November 15 at 3 p.m. Tickets are $7 for students and $10 for adults. Reservations may be made by calling 864-489-4589.
