GAME OBSERVATIONS
Gaffney quarterback DeEdward Burris is flushed out of the pocket by a Northwestern defensive lineman on Friday.
Gaffney quarterback DeEdward Burris might be the most elusive quarterback in the state. Despite being surrounded by defensive players, Burris has the instincts, balance and quickness to evade the rush
and gain valuable yards on broken plays. He finished the game with
144 rushing yards and was 16 of 31 for 204 yards through the air.
Atthough the Indians' defense has been solid against the run for the most part this season, the pass defense has been exposed against the
better passing attacks. The defense is giving up 183 yards a game
through the air.
The Gaffney running backs carried the ball a total of nine times on Friday. Robert Grandy had four carries for 28 yards and Rodney Rogers
had five rushes for 12 yards.
Trailing 14-13 with :51.8 left before the half and facing a fourth-and-1
at the Trojan 11, Gaffney coach Phil Strickland decided to try a 36-yard field goal. Josh Harris made the strategy pay off when he kicked the ball
through the uprights.
