Shelva Jean Smith Ray, 71, of 202 4th St., passed away Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2009, at Upstate Carolina Medical Center.

Born Aug. 21, 1938, in Gaffney, she was the daughter of the late Mark Edward and Inez Coyle Smith. She was the wife of James (Jim) William Ray, a member of Elm Street Church of God and formerly employed by Limestone College.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Melissa Ray Myus and Delores Ray, both of Gaffney; three sons, Dennis William Ray, Jimmy Dean Ray and Wayne Nelson Ray, all of Gaffney; 11 grandchildren and two greatgrandchildren.

Mrs. Ray was preceded in death by a son, James Edward Ray, and a sister, Mildred Wilson.

Graveside services were held Thursday, Nov. 12, at 2 p.m. at Frederick Memorial Gardens, conducted by the Rev. Pierre Salmon.
