Lady Saints make all-conference

Limestone College women's volleyball players Melissa Thomas (Easley, S.C.) and Chelsea Anthony (Pickens, S.C.) were named All-Conference Carolinas, as released by the league office on Thursday. Thomas garnered First-Team honors while Anthony was named Third-Team All- Conference.

Head coaches from conference member institutions voted on the award winners who represent the best of the best for the league.

Thomas, an outside hitter, currently leads the Lady Saints with 405 kills this season. She has appeared in 120 games and is second on the squad with 88 blocks this season. She ranks top four in the conference in hitting percentage (.295) and kills.

Anthony is the team-leader for service aces as she has 78 on the season. She is second on the squad with 521 digs in 123 games played.

She is top three in the league in aces this season.

LC runners earn honors

Limestone College's Justus Kirwa (Kapsabet, Kenya) and Courtney Rankin (Spartansburg, Pa.) were named to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Southeast Region Team, as released by the USTFCCCA on Tuesday.

Both runners earned All- Conference honors this fall and set new school records.

Rankin garnered First-Team All-Conference honors in 2009. She finished 13th at the NCAA Southeast Regional last weekend. She posted a school-record time of 18:52 to finish fourth at the Conference Carolinas Championship on October 23.

Kirwa had a great first season at Limestone as he competed in six meets this season. He posted his best time of 25:54 at the Charlotte Invitational on October 2 as he also set a new school record. Kirwa finished 15th at the NCAA Regional last Saturday.

LC swimmer the week's best

Limestone College's Gilles Gutnecht (Marsville, France) was named the Bluegrass Mountain Conference Men's Swimmer of the Week as announced by the league on Wednesday. Gutnecht won three events in Limestone's dual meet against Gardner-Webb last Friday.

He finished first in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:44.28 and won the 100 freestyle with a time of 48:17. He went on to finish first in the 500 free with a time of 4:47.34.

Limestone hosts Wingate University on Saturday, Nov. 14, at 2 p.m. at the Timken Center.

Lady Saints advance to semis

The Lady Saints volleyball team defeated Erskine College 3- 1 in the first round of the Conference Carolinas tournament on Tuesday night at the Timken Center. Limestone (20-14 overall), the tournament's No. 3 seed, advances to the tournament semifinals where the Lady Saints will face No. 2 Pfeiffer in Misenheimer, N.C., at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.

Limestone easily won game one, 25-13, but Erskine came back to win the second contest, 26-24. The Lady Saints came away with a 25-21 win in game three before taking the final set of the match, 25-16.

Lady Saint Melissa Thomas (Easley, S.C.) posted a gamehigh 19 kills. She also posted two blocks. Jennifer O'Keeffe (Canton, Ga.) recorded 16 kills and team-leading 3 blocks. Brooke England (Rochester, N.Y.) picked up 24 digs, while Chelsea Anthony (Pickens, S.C.) had 17. Anthony also had three aces for the match.
