Special events
The Cherokee County Public Library is sponsoring a Handprint Turkey Art Contest for children 12 years old and under. Go by the Gaffney library to pick up an entry form, which contains a handprint to decorate to look like a turkey. The turkey can be decorated using crayons, markers, felt, feathers, etc. Entries must be returned by 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 20, to the Gaffney library. There will be one winner in each age group: 0-4, 5-8 and 9-12. For more information, call Susan Sarratt, 487-2711.
Holiday events
The annual Cowpens Christmas Parade is set for Saturday, Nov. 28, at 10 a.m. A lighting of the town’s Christmas tree will be held that evening at 6:30. Anyone interested in taking part in the parade, may contact Cowpens City Hall, 864-463- 3201, for more information.
Meetings
The monthly SHOC meeting will be held Nov. 18 at noon in the banquet room of Limestone College’s Stephenson Dining Hall. Joe Bonner, executive director of the Fullerton Foundation, will be the speaker.
The Cherokee County Public Library’s board of directors will meet Tuesday, Nov. 17, at 4 p.m.
The annual CHAPS general membership meeting will be held today from 5:30-7 p.m. at the History and Arts Museum.
Moses Wood Camp No. 125, Sons of Conferderate Veterans, will meet Thursday, Nov. 19, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Cherokee History and Arts Museum, 301 College Drive. Speaker will be Tom Moore Craig, editor of “Upcountry Goes to War.”
Fund raisers
The Blacksburg Athletic Booster Club is selling Boston butts for $30 each. Payment and orders are due by Nov. 18. Orders may be picked up at Blacksburg High School before noon Nov. 21. To place an order, call 8964-425-6776 or 864-761-7103.
