City considers increasing bonuses
City employees won’t learn until December if the city intends to sweeten their Christmas bonus checks this year.
Gaffney Administrator James Taylor said he had hoped to have enough revenue projections this month to decide if it was financially feasibly to increase the employees’ $500 Christmas bonus. Taylor and council will consider increasing the bonus amount since council nixed cost-of-living raises for employees in this year’s budget.
Taylor told the finance committee Friday that a delay in mailing the city’s property tax notices has caused him to push back his decision.
“We normally give $500 but whether we give anything in addition I have to wait until our December council meeting because we just don’t have enough information yet,” Taylor said.
