Sidney Rice Sidney Rice Former Gaffney High great Sidney Rice is having a season to remember for the Minnesota Vikings.

Rice, who starred at the University of South Carolina, had seven catches for a career high 201 yards in the Vikings’ 27- 10 victory over Detroit on Sunday.

The Vikings overcame a season-most 13 penalties, totaling 91 yards, thanks mostly to the Favre-Rice combination that has become one of the top quarterbackreceiver combos in the National Football League.

Rice, in his third year, has 786 yards and 44 receptions and two touchdowns this season.

Rice has really been on a roll as of late.

In week six against the Baltimore Ravens, he had six catches for 176 yards.

A week later against the defending Super Bowl champion Pittsburgh Steelers, he had 10 catches for 136 yards.

He’s on pace to catch more than 70 passes for 1,100 yards.

On Sunday, it was a tight game until late in the second half as the Vikings clinged to a seven-point lead.

Early in the fourth, Favre found Rice open for a 56-yard pass to set up a short touchdown toss to Jeff Dugan, essentially sealing the victory and moving the Vikings closer to clinching the NFC North division championship for the first time in years.
