New line means 50 more jobs
Not all textile manufacturers are struggling in this economic downturn.
Suminoe Textile of America plans to add a manufacturing line to its Meadowcreek Industrial Park facility.
The company, which manufactures automobile textilerelated accessories, will add 50 more workers to its payroll. The company currently employs several hundred \workers at its plant.
The line is expected to become operational in March.
Cherokee County Council approved at its most recent meeting the company’s request for a special source revenue credit to prevent its expansion from being assessed at the industrial tax rate of 10.5 percent.
Anderson Family Associates LLC owns the manufacturing building.
Cherokee County Development Board Executive Director Jim Cook, who was on an outof state economic recruiting trip, said the company’s expansion is another hopeful sign the economy is on the rebound.
