ARC office offering babysitter’s certification course on Nov. 25
The local American Red Cross will have a babysitter certification course on Wednesday, Nov. 25, from 10 a.m.- 4:30 p.m. in the large conference room at Cherokee County Public Library.
The six-hour class includes hands-on activities, decision-making skills, first aid and basic child care skills – a must for babysitter’s between the ages of 11 and 15.
The class will focus on teaching teens how to care for children and infants; be a good leader and role model; make good decisions and solve problems; keep the children being cared for and the babysitter safe; handle emergencies such as injuries, illnesses and household accidents; write resumes and interview for jobs.
Many quality sources suggest that completion of a certification class should be a prerequisite for a parent looking to hire a sitter. Some parents refuse to hire an individual unless they have passed the certification class and present a verifiable certificate.
The course cost is $30 and students must bring their lunch. The students will take home a helpful babysitter’s handbook and CD-ROM.
Pre-registration and pre-payment is required. To register, call (864) 489-6066 or go by the ARC office Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.-3 p.m.
