Meeting
The Cherokee County Republican Party will meet Monday, Nov. 23, at 6:30 p.m at Aegean Pizza on Floyd Baker Boulevard. Special guests include Florence County Councilman Ken Ard, who is a candidate for SC Lt. Governor, and Cherokee County Coroner Dennis Fowler.
Church news
Limestone Presbyterian Church invites you to a Service of Prayer and Thanksgiving on Wednesday, Nov 25, from 6-6:30 p.m. in the chapel.
Circle of Grace Lutheran Chapel will observe Christ the King Sunday as they gather for worship on Nov. 22. Worshippers will celebrate Christ’s rule in their lives and their willingness to be servants in his kingdom. All are welcome. The church meets in Limestone College’s Camp- Swofford Chapel at the corner of College Drive and Griffeth Street.
The All-Male Choir of Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church, 1809 Old Post Road, will celebrate its 20th anniversary Sunday, Nov. 22, at 4 p.m.
Fund raiser
The WMU of Beaverdam Baptist Church will have a bake sale on Saturday, Nov. 21, at Buford Street Drugs beginning at 7 a.m.
VFW Post 3447 and its auxiliaries will have a fish fry Saturday, Nov. 21, from 5-8 p.m. Plates are $6 with proceeds going to help the VFW with the many Christmas events the organization sponsors. Also on the same day, there will be karaoke upstairs from 7-11 p.m. with those attending invited to enter a karaoke contest for $5. The winner will receive half the proceeds collected at the end of the contest in January. On Sunday, Nov. 22, at 1 p.m. there will be Thanksgiving dinner served at the home post. There will be no set charge for the dinner but donations per plate will be accepted.
Christmas
parades
The Cowpens Christmas Parade is set for Saturday, Nov. 28, at 10 a.m. Lighting of the town’s Christmas tree will be held that evening at 6:30.
The Blacksburg Christmas Parade is scheduled Saturday, Dec. 12, at 2 p.m. There is no entrance fee. Floats can be rented for $365 and should be ordered no later than Dec. 3. All other entrants are asked to register by Dec. 10. Contact Debby or Laura at Blacksburg Town Hall, 864-839- 2332, if you wish to participate or need more information.
Senior Center news
The Gaffney Senior Center, 499 W. Rutledge Ave., will host its annual Christmas Craft Show on Saturday, Nov. 21, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. There will be local crafters with Italian charms, Beauty Control, Creative Memories, bottle cap necklaces, Carolina/ Clemson items, baked goods, knitting/crocheting, jewelry, candies, wreaths, bows and much more.
Gospel singings
Cherokee Falls Baptist Church, 109 School St., Cherokee Falls, will have a gospel singing Sunday, Nov. 22, at 6 p.m. featuring The Rogers.
Eastside Baptist Church, 1284 E. Cherokee St., Blacksburg, will have a third Saturday night singing Nov. 21 at 7 p.m. featuring The Smith Family, The Travelers and The Hamptons.
