Incredible shows highlight holiday season in Newberry
NEWBERRY – The sights and sounds of the holiday season are everywhere in Newberry. Decorations brighten the unique shops and the scents of holiday meals waft through downtown from the many restaurants. New Christmas lights festoon the park and the sounds of the holiday emanate from the Opera House.
The musical season is bountiful at the historic Opera House. Percy Sledge ushers in the season Thursday, Dec. 3, with the Palmetto Mastersingers hard on his heels Friday, Dec. 4. This all-male chorus offers the opportunity not only for sumptuous holiday music, but the chance to see and hear your doctor or lawyer in a new light.
Saturday, Dec. 5, offers an amazing concert when Jerry Douglas offers "A Very Jerry Christmas" with special guest John Oats of Hall and Oats and Irish soprano Maura O'Connell.
King Arthur, Lancelot and Guinevere invite you to join them in Camelot on Sunday, Dec. 6, for two shows. This timeless musical is a perfect holiday gift for yourself.
The classic beach group "The Flamingoes" swoop into town Tuesday, Dec. 8. The 282nd Fort Jackson Army Band will celebrate a patriotic Christmas on Dec. 9 while lyrical pianist, Emile Pandolfi will grace the Opera House stage Thursday, Dec. 10.
A Rockette-like revue high-kicks its way into your heart Friday, Dec. 11, with two performances.
On Saturday, Dec. 12, celebrate with the 208th Army Reserve Band from Charlotte in a free holiday concert.
BJ Thomas arrives in town Sunday, Dec. 13, with "a New York Woman" and he "Just Can't Help Believing" that Newberry is the place to be this holiday season.
The Sigmund Romberg Orchestra, with a little schmaltz, a superb chorus of soloists and sets will present a full orchestra on Monday, Dec. 14, with two shows of music of the season. The show will feature traditional holiday music, including Strauss, Tchaikovsky and Berlin and lots of carols.
Myrtle Beach pianist Rocky Fretz will perform Thursday, Dec. 17, and on Sunday, Dec. 20, the Lettermen arrive for two performances.
And once Christmas is past it's time to unwind with New Year's Eve in Newberry – with fireworks, champagne, great food, Dick Goodwin's Big Band and much more.
