Library hours

 The Cherokee County Public Library and Blacksburg Public Library will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 26, Friday, Nov. 27, and Saturday, Nov. 28, for the Thanksgiving holidays. The library will reopen on Monday, Nov. 30.

Special event

 The Cherokee County Junior Women’s Club will sponsor "Breakfast with Santa" on Saturday, Dec. 5, from 8:30-10:30 a.m. at Southside Baptist Church. Tickets are $7 and may be purchased from any CCJW member or call 864-490-4505. Tickets may also be purchased at SubStation II, Progressive, Peeler Company Insurance, Hair Gallery and Little Angels.

Church news

 Limestone Presbyterian Church invites you to a Service of Prayer and Thanksgiving today, Nov 25, from 6-6:30 p.m. in the chapel.

 A Little Angles GospelFest will be held Saturday, Nov. 28, at 3 p.m. at Indian Hill Baptist Church, 135 Leadmine.

 The Senior Missionaries of the Thickety Mountain Baptist Association will have their fifth Sunday program Nov. 29 at 2:30 p.m. at the Associational Building with Bethel, Mr. Sinai, Youngs Grove and Limestone in charge. All churches are urged to attend. The church with the highest attendance will receive the Attendance Cup from last quarter's winner, Shady Grove.

 Island Creek Baptist Church, 2112 Battleground Road, Cowpens, will sponsor its annual Hanging of the Greenery program Sunday, Nov. 29, at 6 p.m. Everyone invited.

 Fifth Sunday Youth Day services will be held Nov. 29 at 9:30 a.m. at Island Creek Baptist Church. The youths will be in charge of the services and speaker will be Deacon Matthew Davis, a member of Southside Baptist Church, Spartanburg, and assistant principal at Cowpens Middle School.

 The Pre-Thanksgiving Fellowship Worship Services for White Plains, Knuckles Chapel, Green Bethel, Island Creek, Lewis Chapel, Mt. Calvary of Whitestone, Mt. Calvary of Cowpens and Shady Grove Baptist churches will be held Wednesday, Nov. 25, at 7 p.m. at Island Creek Baptist Church, 2112 Battleground Road. Speaker will be the Rev. James Patton Jr., pastor of White Plains Baptist Church. Music will be presented by the combined choirs of the churches.

Christmas parades

 The Cowpens Christmas Parade is set for Saturday, Nov. 28, at 10 a.m. A lighting of the town’s Christmas tree will be held that evening at 6:30.

 The Blacksburg Christmas Parade is scheduled Saturday, Dec. 12, at 2 p.m. There is no entrance fee. Floats can be rented for $365 and should be ordered no later than Dec. 3. All other entrants as asked to register by Dec. 10. Contact Debby or Laura at Blacksburg Town Hall, 864-839-2332, if you wish to participate or for more information.

Gospel singing

 Antioch Baptist Church of Gaffney, 300 Serene Drive, will have a free gospel concert Saturday, Dec. 5, at 5 p.m. featuring Travis Greene.

Classes

 A hands-on holiday candy making class will be held Saturday, Dec. 5, from 10 a.m. until noon at the Gaffney Senior Center, 499 W. Rutledge Ave. The class will cover melting, molding, coloring, marbleizing, hand dipping and candy cluster. Cost is $25; all supplies are included. Bring a container to take your finished treats home. A "Fun with Fondant Animals" class will be held Thursday, Dec. 10, from 6-8 p.m. Participants will be making jungle animals such as tiger, zebra and monkey. Cost is $20; all supplies are included. Holiday schedules

 The Cherokee County Solid Waste Collection, Recycling and Landfill departments will be closed Thursday, Nov. 26, and Friday, Nov. 27, in observance of Thanksgiving. You may use extra containers for overflow on Thursday, Dec. 3, and Friday, Dec. 4, for garbage and recycling. The Recycling Center receiving bay will be open Saturday, Nov. 28, from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. The landfill will be open Saturday, Nov. 28, from 7:30- 1 p.m. All departments will resume normal operations Monday, Nov. 30.

 Iron City Ministries will be closed Nov. 25-27 for Thanksgiving and reopen Monday, Nov. 30. Normal operations hours are 9 a.m.-noon, Monday through Thursday.

 The City of Gaffney Sanitation Department will observe Thursday, Nov. 25, as a holiday. Thursday's route will be picked up Wednesday, Nov. 25.

Blood drive

 A blood drive will be held Dec. 4, from 11 a.m.- 3:30 p.m. at Limestone College. For more information, contact Mike at the Gaffney Service Center, 489-6066.
