Housing starts up in Oct.
Housing stats compiled by the Home Builders Association show a bit of good news for home starts in Cherokee County.
There were three new home starts in the county in October, as compared to no new homes starts in October 2008. The average value of the new homes was about $110,000.
For the year, however, the county is still down 20 home starts from the same 10-month time span in 2008.
The news was also promising for the city, where there were two new home starts in October compared to none in the same month in 2008.
The largest commercial permit issued by the city was for replacement windows costing $199,000 at Gaffney Housing Authority’s Beltline Courts.
The county’s top-dollar commercial permit was for $90,000 in renovations to the old Oxford facility on Hyatt Street by its new tenant Jetline.
