Middle school students take a history tour
      Local middle school students got quite a workout Friday, but the morning’s lesson required more than physical fitness and stamina to achieve. On foot, students from Gaffney and Granard middle schools visited a trio of local landmarks where they received brief accounts from veterans about their time in the military.

POLICE REPORTS
       A pistol and bullets were reported stolen following a burglary on Bear Creek Road in Blacksburg. According to the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, someone pushed out a window air conditioning unit to gain entry to a home in the 200 block between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Nov. 14.

      Cherokee County Fire Chiefs Association will be conducting a boot drive on Friday, Nov. 27, at major intersections around Cherokee County.

      CLEMSON (AP) — The Atlantic Coast Conference championship game can wait for Clemson. It’s South Carolina week, and that’s too important for the 15thranked Tigers to overlook. “For us, it’s just the next game, next goal,” coach Dabo Swinney said Tuesday.

Housing starts up in Oct.
      Housing stats compiled by the Home Builders Association show a bit of good news for home starts in Cherokee County. There were three new home starts in the county in October, as compared to no new homes starts in October 2008. The average value of the new homes was about $110,000.

Woman accused of spitting blood on corrections officer
      The Gaffney Police Department on Nov. 23 served two arrest warrants on a 61-year-old Buck Shoals Road woman accused of spitting blood on a corrections officer and a paramedic during a Sept. 19 incident at the Cherokee County Detention Center. Betty Ann Cochran was charged with two separate counts of throwing bodily fluids.

Gaffney’s Christmas parade to be held Saturday, Dec.12
Registration deadline is 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 4
      The City of Gaffney/Veterans Christmas Parade will be held Saturday, Dec. 12, beginning at 10 a.m. As in years past, this will be a joint effort by the City of Gaffney and Veterans of Cherokee County.
