Wanting to cater to the needs of Cherokee County’s younger population, a local clothing store will soon open to become the latest business to set up shop along Floyd Baker Boulevard.

Driven by the opinion that few shopping options exist locally for teens and young adults in terms of clothes, Krome will open Dec. 1. The new business will open in the Floyd Baker Boulevard shopping center currently anchored by Meineke, Verizon Wireless and GameStop.

“We saw there was not a lot of selection here in terms of clothing for young people unless they went to Spartanburg, Shelby or other locations,” said Krome co-owner Ronn Wyatt, who runs the business with the help of other family members. “So we decided to make the move, introducing Krome to the local audience; hopefully they will receive it well.“

Wyatt, whose family has owned the Team Spirit sports fan gear & apparel store at Prime Outlets — Gaffney for the past several years, originally looked into the possibility of taking the clothing business to Spartanburg. In the end, however, the choice was made to stick with familiar surroundings and a customer base his family has come to love over the years.

“With the way the economy is, it was the best decision for us to stay local,” Wyatt said. “Not only is it better for us business wise, it also helps the county in terms of adding jobs and tax money.”

Accompanied by work crews and family members, Wyatt has spent recent weeks getting the business ready for its grand opening next week. Though unfinished, the local businessman has allowed curious passers-by a brief look into the new clothing store.

“Hopefully they liked what they saw and spread the word,” Wyatt said.
