Palmetto Mastersingers perform Dec. 4 at Newberry Opera House

NEWBERRY – The Palmetto Mastersingers will perform a festive holiday concert at the Newberry Opera House on Friday, Dec. 4, at 8 p.m.

An all-male chorus of 81 singers based in Columbia, the Palmetto Mastersingers have sung at the White House, Carnegie Hall, the National Cathedral, Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, and St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican. The group was founded in 1986 by the late Dr. Arpad Darazs, director of choral studies at the University of South Carolina.

Known as South Carolina’s Musical Ambassadors the singers come from all walks of life with a preponderance of doctors and lawyers – all of whom love to sing. The Palmetto Mastersingers perform under the musical direction of Dr. Walter Cuttino, a voice professor at the University of South Carolina.

For their celebration of the holidays at the Opera House, the Palmetto Mastersingers will perform mélange of rousing holiday music and poignant sacred tunes.
