Lyman E. Blanton

Retired from Duke Energy

BLACKSBURG – Lyman Eugene Blanton, 86, of 510 Turner Road, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2009, at Upstate Carolina Medical Center.

Born in Earl, N.C., Mr. Blanton was the widower

of Frances Elizabeth

Jones Blanton

and was a retired carpenter foreman from Duke Energy. He served in the U.S. Navy in World War II and was a member of New Heights Baptist Church. Mr. Blanton was a Mason and member of Gaffney Elks Lodge.

Surviving are a son, Dr. Bruce Blanton and wife, Rita, of Fayetteville, N.C., and three grandson, Jayci Blanton of Gaffney, Sgt. First Class Kris Barnette of Dahlonega, Ga., and Angel Blanton Roach and husband, Chris, of Blacksburg.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Blanton was preceded in death by a son, Terry Blanton, and a brother, James Blanton.

The family will receive friends Friday, Nov. 2, from 1-2:15 p.m. at New Heights Baptist Church. Services will follow at 2:30 p.m. with the Rev. Sidney Norton officiating. Interment will be in Frederick Memorial Gardens.
