Franklin Edward Owens Sr., 72, of 128 Owens Lane, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, Nov. 27, 2009, at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home.

Born in Gaffney, he was the husband of Martha Wilson Owens and son of the late Amos Owens and Jessie Scruggs Owens. He was retired from Wise Snacks Inc. and a graduate of Gaffney High School and Rutledge College. Mr. Owens was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served on the USS Bon Homme Richard, and was a member of East Gaffney Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife of 53 years, surviving are four sons, Frankie Owens Jr., Timothy Scott Owens and wife, Teresa, all of Gaffney, Jeffrey Lee Owens Sr. and wife, Therese, of Boiling Springs, and Gregory Dell Owens of Greer; a brother, Donnie Owens and wife, Robina, of Boiling Springs; a sister, Sandra Coble and husband, Lane, of Crouse, N.C.; 11 grandchildren, Jeffrey Jr., Heather, Heath, Holden, Robert, Brandon, Ashley, Jessica, Cory, Josh and Kristin; three great grandchildren, Makayla, Bryce and R.J.; three step-grandchildren, Chris, Kirk and Nick; an aunt, Else Scruggs of Enoree; and two brother in-laws, Buddy Wilson and wife, Patricia, of Spartanburg and Lewis E. Wilson and wife, Carolyn, of Boiling Springs.

Mr. Owens was preceded in death by two brothers, Dean Owens and Ray Owens.

Services were held Sunday, Nov. 29, at 2 p.m. at the Blakely Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Ron Jackson and Ronell Owensby officiating. Interment was in Frederick Memorial Gardens.

Visitation was held Saturday, Nov. 28, from 6-8 p.m. at Blakely Funeral Home.
