Couple escapes house fire unharmed
      A couple was awakened from their sleep Saturday morning by a fire in their bedroom. Luckily, City of Gaffney firefighters said the couple was able to escape from the burning home unharmed. Fire broke out at 121 Granite Drive at about 8 a.m. Saturday.

‘Cutting’ on the rise in schools
Grant will enable students to receive counseling
      Bizarre cases of students intentionally injuring themselves continues to be a problem in county schools. Termed “cutting,” the phenomenon is a type of self-injury in which teenagers may cut themselves on their wrists, arms, legs and bellies with razors or improvised devices such as erasers. When the cuts or burns heal, they often leave scars.

Locally, the Cherokee County Junior Women’s Club is doing its part to ensure that local kids are all smiles this Christmas, providing gifts and activities the children are sure to remember for a long time at the organization’s Breakfast with Santa event.

Limestone College students giving back to community
      Nicholas Shumate and his Limestone College student government members each placed three dollars in an envelope during their monthly meeting in November. The students’ contributions resulted Tuesday in the delivery of a $60 check to Meals on Wheels. This amount was exactly what it takes to cover a month of meals for one Meals on Wheels client.
