Olive Garden coming here

A popular restaurant chain renowned for its Italian specialties is coming to Gaffney.

The Olive Garden has applied for a liquor license to locate in the former Eckerd Drug store space at the Peachtree Marketplace.

City of Gaffney zoning administrator Tony Lavender was unaware of the restaurant chain’s plans and said the company has yet to submit site or building plans to the city.

A telephone message left for a Peachtree Marketplace manager at Charlotte-based Waters Development wasn’t returned Tuesday.

The restaurant chain was founded in 1982 and is owned by Darden Restaurants, Inc., the largest casual dining restaurant company in the world. In addition to its genuine Italian cuisine, the restaurant also offers an extensive wine list.
