Martha Louise Lawson Smart, 85, of 2047 W. Stagecoach Trail, Shelby, N.C., died Monday, Nov. 30, 2009, at Cleveland Pines Nursing Center in Shelby.

Born Aug. 15, 1924, in Spartanburg County, she was the daughter of the late A.J. Lawson and Leona Alberta Knight Lawson. She was retired from the sewing department at Shadlowline and was a member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Smart is survived by her husband of 69 years, Gordon Elmer Smart; a son, Steve Smart of Gaffney; and a daughter, Pat Bowen of Shelby.

The family will receive friends Thursday, Dec. 3, from 6-8 p.m. at Stamey Funeral Home in Fallston.

Services will be held Friday, Dec. 4, at 2 p.m. at Oak Grove United Methodist Church, conducted by the Revs. Scott Owen and Doug Love. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
