Irvin named to all-conference team

Appalachian State University center Brett Irvin was named to the All-Conference team.

Irvin, a former Gaffney High standout, was selected to the second team by coaches in the Southern Conference. The junior has received two national championships with the Mountaineers.

Irvin is among the leaders on an offensive line which allowed Appalachian state to lead the SoCon this season in total offense, passing yardage, rushing touchdowns and scoring. He was a first team all conference selection in media balloting.

Lady Saints fall to N. Greenville

The Limestone women's basketball team could not overcome 22 turnovers and a 21.8 percent shooting performance from the field in a 75-59 loss at North Greenville on Tuesday night in a non-conference clash at the Hayes Gymnasium.

The Lady Saints trailed by only two points at the intermission (27-25) despite connecting on only 5 of 24 attempts (20.8%) while NGU shot 35.7%. However, the home standing Lady Crusaders came out and shot 50.0 percent (16-32) in the second half compared the Limestone's 22.6 percent (7-31). North Greenville also sank 14 of 19 free-throw attempts in the final 20 minutes of action.

Limestone, which forced 24 turnovers and blocked 8 shots, placed 3 players in double figures headed by Lauren Pace and Ashley Robinson, who scored 15 points apiece.

Saints improve to 4-1

The Limestone College men's basketball team improved to 4-1 on the season with a 68-57 victory over North Greenville on Tuesday evening at the Hayes Gymnasium. The Crusaders stand at 3-3 overall.

The Saints' Jarrell Douglass posted his fourth double-double of the season with 15 points and 13 rebounds. He also had a team-high three steals.

Danny Friend scored a teamhigh 18 points to go along with 5 rebounds for the Saints. Tyron Evans and Michael Barrett recorded 14 and 12 points, respectively.
