On respecting other people’s property and the BPW’s new billing process
Dear Editor:
The public library is a wonderful place for free entertainment, so why do we, the public, abuse their resources?
If we use something belonging to someone else, we should respect it when it’s in our possession. Many of the books I’ve read have been abused. I have found blood stains, food lumps and stains, cigarette ashes, ink edits, pencil notes, torn pages and broken spines, plus many items of which I can’t even guess the source.
One book had what looked like Cheeto stains on almost every page. I don’t enjoy having words obliterated due to some unknown substance gluing the pages together. It’s unsanitary! We should be responsible and have respect for those who use the books after us.
*****
Again the Gaffney Board of Public Works showed their respect? for the overcharged public who pays their exorbitant fees and provides the huge salaries for their officials. I read the article concerning the reason behind the new billing. What it boils down to is that we don’t even deserve the courtesy of an addressed return envelope in which to return payment each month.
Who cares how much they save? It won’t help reduce their monthly charges and has taken away the only amenity they have (until now) shown the public. What do we expect? The RIGHT thing?
NO WAY?
Sincerely,
Myra P. Whitmire
