‘Christmas on Limestone’ celebrates the holidays

The City of Gaffney will celebrate the Christmas season with its ninth annual “Christmas on Limestone” tonight from 5- 9. Festivities will feature activities for children and adults of all ages.

A highlight of the evening will be the lighting of the city’s Christmas tree in City Hall Park. Other events include inflatable games, concessions, tractor and wagon rides, horse and carriage rides, a snow machine, and roasted chestnuts. Christmas music will be presented by choirs from Restoration Church, Goucher Baptist Church and Gaffney High School. Fred Knowles will be on hand to draw sidewalk art and the Chick-fil-A cow will make an appearance. Santa will be stationed at the Gaffney Fire Department.

The Gaffney Little Theatre will have its annual “Just Desserts” and a flea market at the Brown Building.

Beginning at 5 p.m., children are invited to register to help Mayor Henry Jolly light the city’s tree. One lucky child will be chosen to be the mayor’s assistant. Matthew McDonald will serve as the Town Crier, introducing Mayor Jolly and announcing the beginning of the festivities.

There will be a live nativity sponsored by CHAPS and the Festival of Trees will be open for viewing at Gaffney City Hall. Joe and Shirley Randolph will host candlelight tours of the Michael Gaffney Log Home.

The City of Gaffney Visitors Center along with the Cherokee Alliance of Visual Artists (CAVA) will sponsor free ornament making at the Visitors Center.

Throughout the evening at various locations there will be roving choirs, hot cocoa, wassail, cookies and other refreshments, shopping and much more.
