Building destroyed

A storage building was lost to fire on Ford Road late Wednesday.

Firefighters from the DMW and Corinth volunteer fire departments along with firefighters from Gaffney Fire Department’s East Gaffney station responded in full force to the 1000 block of Ford Road on Wednesday evening where they found a storage building fully engulfed.

DMW Fire Chief Rickey Peterson said the 12- to 16-foot-long building was owned by the Pennington family. While it was not known for sure, Peterson said the fire was possibly electrical in nature.

The sound of the fire alerted the family and Peterson said it was likely that the building was already a complete loss at that point.

About 30 to 40 firefighters in all responded to the scene. Peterson said firefighters focused on making sure that the fire did not spread to adjoining buildings on the property.

Wednesday’s severe downpours had ended by the time firefighters were battling the blaze but weather did cause at least one issue. A fire truck that had entered the muddy driveway to the fire scene became stuck and had to be pulled out.
