Christmas services

 The children of Macedonia Baptist Church will present their Christmas musical Wednesday, Dec. 16, at 6 p.m. A special morning service is planned Sunday, Dec. 20, with a program of organ and piano Christmas music at 6 p.m. The church will have a Christmas Eve candlelight service Dec. 24 at 6 p.m.

Holiday hours

 The Cherokee County Public Library and Blacksburg library will be closed for the Christmas holidays on Thursday, Dec. 24, Friday, Dec. 25, and Saturday, Dec. 26. The library will reopen on Monday, Dec. 28, and on Friday, Jan. 1, and Saturday, Jan. 2, the library will be closed. The library will reopen on Monday, Jan. 4.

 The History and Arts Museum's holiday hours will be Monday, Dec. 21- 23, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. The museum will be closed Dec. 24-Jan. 2. Regular hours are Wednesday-Friday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. and Saturday, 2-5 p.m.

Church news

 The second annual Joann Harrison Memorial Concert will be held Sunday, Dec. 27, at 5 p.m. in the Family Life Center of Southside Baptist Church. During the concert, food items will be available for donations. All proceeds will go to Peachcenter Ministries. Beside cash donations, people are invited to donate food items, clothes, toys and baby items. Any church or individual that would like to participate by singing, preparing food or assisting with the collection of items should contact Southside Baptist Church, 864-489-6504, or office@ gaffney-southside. com.

 Do you know someone who would like to take the four-week Wilton decorating class will begin Jan. 14 at the Gaffney Senior Center? If so, a Wilson gift certificate would be appreciated. Call Debbie at 864-489- 3868 to purchase a certificate.

 The Senior Centers of Cherokee County is sponsoring a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) site in Cherokee County during the filing season, but desperately needs volunteers. If you're willing to be trained and certified to do simple income tax returns for low-income families, contact Debbie Davenport, 864-489-3868. Training will be Jan. 4-7 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Senior Center. Tax preparations will begin Jan. 25.

Fruit cake sale

 The Blacksburg Rotary Club is selling Benson's two-pound fruit cakes to support its local charities this holiday season. The cakes are $11 each and are available in Blacksburg at Kirby's Flowers, Blacksburg Times, Medifare Drugs, Blacksburg Primary School, Blacksburg Elementary School, Blacksburg Middle School, American Community Bank and The Palmetto Bank. The cakes are available in Gaffney at Correll Insurance Group and Foster Funeral Home.
