Lady Saints fall short to Mount Olive, 65-63

Limestone College’s women’s basketball team fell to conferencerival Mount Olive 65-63 on Saturday evening at the Timken Center.

The Lady Saints fall to 1-1 in Conference Carolinas play (2-4 overall) as the Trojans improve to 2-0 in the league (2-3 overall).

Limestone was led by Ashley Robinson’s 14 points and 9 rebounds. Brittany Miller, Maria Young, Stephanie Hayes and Whitney Todd (New Albany, Ind.) added nine points each.

Mount Olive’s Brittany Miller and Helen Moore scored 12 points each, and Moore had a team-high 7 rebounds. Monye Fauntleroy and Shequanta McGee scored 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Mount Olive jumped out to the lead but the Lady Saints pulled within two points at the 15:50 mark. The Trojans led by 10 points at halftime (38-28).

The Lady Saints trailed by six with only 2:28 left on the clock. Todd and Williams each had baskets in the closing seconds to pull the Lady Saints within two, but the team couldn’t come up with another basket.

The Trojans shot 40.3 percent from the field compared to Limestone’s 40.4 percent.

Limestone hosts North Greenville University on December 17 at 5:30 p.m.
