Red Cross classes
The following classes are being offered at the ARC office, 405 N. Logan St.: Babysitter’s Training (ages 11-15): Fee, Friday, Jan. 15, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.; Adult, Child and Infant CPR: Fee. Wednesday, Jan. 20, 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m.; Adult, Child and Infant CPR Review: Fee. Wednesday, Jan. 27, 9 a.m.-1 p.m.; Standard First Aid; Fee. Thursday, Jan. 28, 6-9:30 p.m.; Adult CPR/AED. Fee. Friday, Jan. 29, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Pre-payment and preregistration is required; contact 864-489-6066 or stop by the ARC office.
Fund raiser
Church youth groups are invited to participate Jan. 17 in a “Bowling for Babies” fundraiser sponsored by the Cherokee Pregnancy Center. The event will be from 2-6 p.m. at Starmax. Youths are asked to get a sponsor to pledge money based on their bowling score in the tournament. A grand prize, 50/50 drawing and baked goods sale are among the activities planned. Holiday hours
The Cherokee Country Public Library and the Blacksburg Public Library will be closed Monday, Jan. 18, in observance of Martin Luther King's birthday. The libraries will reopen Tuesday, Jan. 19.
The City of Gaffney Sanitation Department will observe Monday, Jan. 18, as a holiday. Monday's route will be picked up on Wednesday, Jan. 20. Carts should be out on the curbside Jan. 20 by 7 a.m.
Meetings
The January meeting of the 4-F Club that was scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 14, has been cancelled due to the illness of the “Chef,” Hoke Parris.
Jack E. Daniel Chapter 54, Disabled American Veterans, will meet Jan. 14 at VFW Post 3447. All members are invited to attend. Light snacks will be served at 6 p.m. and the meeting starts at 6:30. If you are a disabled American veteran and are not a member you are encouraged to attend and become a part of the chapter.
