James Costello James Costello College recruiters aren’t exactly wearing a path out at Gaffney High School this year.

Gaffney coach Phil Strickland said only offensive tackle James Costello and wideout Joe Craig have received firm offers to play in college.

Craig, who verbally committed to Clemson as a junior, plans to make it official and sign with the Tigers on national signing day on Wednesday, Feb. 5.

Craig, who was slowed by a broken hand late in the season, finished with 20 receptions for 308 yards.

He also showed his versatility by playing cornerback in the playoffs.

Costello, the team’s only Shrine Bowl player, has offers from Wingate, Catawba and Newberry, according to head coach Phil Strickland.

Costello is lining up visits to the schools and plans to sign a grant-inaid on Feb. 5, Strickland said.

Costello injured his knee in the Shrine Bowl and underwent arthoscopic surgery to repair a cartilage tear.

Joe Craig Joe Craig Strickland said a number of underclassmen, including quarterback DeEdward Burris, are receiving interest from colleges.
