Humphries will seek re-election to Cherokee County Council District 2
BAILEY HUMPHRIES
An ardent supporter of the proposed airport wants to be on council to see the project to its fruition.
That’s one reason Bailey Humphries said he intends to seek re-election to his third 4-year term on Cherokee County Council.
“The airport is important because it will bring jobs to the county,” he said.
Humphries was active in local and state GOP politics, serving as chairman of the Cherokee County Republican Party. He’s been just as active on council, serving as chairman on the Public Works Committee for six years and as chairman of the Appalachian Council of Governments’ Economic Development Committee, which includes representatives from Greenville, Spartanburg, Oconee, Pickens and Anderson counties.
He’s sponsored two recent county ordinances, including the Cost Recovery Act, which allows fire departments to recoup their costs; as well as an ordinance that takes the burden off homeowers to assure their new homes are assessed at 4 percent.
Humphries has a couple of Republican challengers for his District 2 seat, marking the first time he will face opposition in a primary. A Democrat is expected to await the winner of the GOP primary.
As for the campaign, Humphries said his message will be a simple one — jobs, jobs and jobs. He’d also like to develop a long-range plan to bring sewer and water to all the county’s interchanges.
Filings for county offices will begin in March.
