GAFFNEY MAN TRAPPED — A Charlotte, N.C., woman was cited for driving left of center following a recent two-vehicle crash on Wilcox Avenue, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol. Lance Cpl. Scot Edgeworth said the accident occurred Jan. 27 at about 6:20 p.m. when a 2006 Chrysler mini-van driven by a 69-year-old Charlotte woman crossed the center line and struck a 1998 Dodge mini-van headed in the opposite direction. The driver of the Dodge mini-van, Espiridion Razo- Symaya, 29, of Gaffney, was trapped in his vehicle and had to be extricated by Grassy Pond firefighters using hydraulic equipment. Razo- Symaya was flown to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center from an emergency landing zone set up by City of Gaffney firefighters at the nearby UPS freight terminal. Lance Cpl. Edgeworth said five passengers in Razo-Symaya's vehicle were taken to Upstate Carolina Medical Center. All of those passengers were minors ranging in age from 14 to 16 years. The driver of the other vehicle, Claudia Lingham, of Charlotte, and her passenger, James Lingham, 49, also were taken for treatment, Edgeworth said.
