Marie Prevatte guest speaker at meeting
XI Alpha Delta of Beta Sigma Phi met Monday, March 1, at 6:30 p.m. at Trackside Restaurant. Shirley Turner was hostess.
The president, Patty Andrews, called the meting to order and Shirley Turner led the opening ritual. The secretary, Ruth Ann Ohlsen, gave the roll call and 11 members were present. The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. The treasurer, Shirley Addis, gave the monthly financial report and all standing committees also gave their reports.
After a meal, the guest speaker, Marie Prevatte, discussed “Meeting the Prevatte Family.” Marie lived in Fresno, Calif., until she was 14. She and her family moved to San Francisco, where she received her education and became a secretary (typist) for a U.S. Navy Base at Pier No. 27. Bob Prevatte was from Laurinburg, N.C., but was stationed at the Navy military base in San Francisco. At Pier No. 27, in 1946, Marie and Bob Prevatte met and fell very much in love. They were married in 1949 and returned to the East Coast. They became parents of four children approximately two years apart. Bob received his education at Wofford College. His tenure with the Cherokee County School System was from 1956-1971. Fourteen of these years were spent as GHS head football coach. The last few years he was principal at West Junior High. Marie also worked in the school system as a librarian and secretary.
In closing, Marie left the group with a special thought: “Always cherish your purpose in life.”
The sisters will attend the TLC/FBC on Tuesday, March 16, at 6:30 p.m. The executive committee will meet Saturday, March 20, at 2 p.m.
The next meeting of the group will be April 5 at 7 p.m. at the Aegean. Hostesses will be Patty Andrews, Montez Harvey and Fran Kerr.
