City, BPW candidates can file for election
Candidates interested in running for a seat on Gaffney City Council can begin filing Friday, May 28, according to an election calendar released by city officials.
Council members Tom Reid (District 2), Bernard Smith (District 3) and Boone Peeler (District 5) are up for re-election. It is believed all the incumbents will seek re-election.
Candidates can begin picking up their petitions for the Gaffney Board of Public Works commission a little earlier — on Thursday, May 13. Commissioners Roger Harris and Grady Randolph are the incumbents up for re-election.
The 2-week filing period for council hopefuls will close at noon Friday, June 11, while commissioner candidates have until Thursday, May 27, to return their petitions.
The nonpartisan general election is slated for Tuesday, Aug. 10, with the winning candidates taking the city council oath of office Friday, Aug. 27.
