POLICE REPORT
The Gaffney Police Department was investigating last week a reported student assault on a security official at Gaffney High School.
According to a police report, a 57-year-old security official with American Security asked an 18-year-old man on March 1 at about 9:15 a.m. to remove his hat inside school property at 149 Twin Lakes Road. The man complied but put his hat back on and then walked away.
According to the police report, the security official told the man “Let’s go to the office” and stepped in front of him. The security official told police the man responded by removing his shoes and socks. The man then allegedly grabbed the security official and slung him against some lockers.
The security official told police he tried to get the man off him but could not. The security official said he sprayed the man with pepper spray but the man continued to fight. The man allegedly quit fighting when the security official sprayed him a second time.
The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office reported an estimated $2,000 in malicious damage to a vehicle parked outside of a Wilcox Avenue business March 4.
According to a police report, someone caved in the top of a car parked outside the Silver Dollar in the 1400 block between 9 p.m. and 10:30 p.m.
The Gaffney Police Department charged a Blacksburg woman with a third or subsequent offense of property crime.
Patty Renee Painter, 39, of Little Egypt Road, is accused of taking $319 from the Salvation Army on Colonial Avenue on Feb. 15, according to an arrest warrant.
A previous police report indicated a money deposit that had been placed on a desk inside the office went missing after a Salvation Army worker left Painter alone in the office for a brief period of time.
The Gaffney Police Department is investigating an armed robbery that occurred on a city street March 3.
According to a police report, a 43-year-old Marion Avenue man went to an ATM machine early on March 3 to get $400 for his rent. As he was walking home, he was approached in the area of Robinson Street and Peachtree Street by a man he owed $10. Police were told the suspect began beating the victim about the head and face and then cut him with a knife. The suspect allegedly took the victim’s $400 and ran.
The victim suffered a severe cut on a finger of his right hand, police reported.
A Serene Drive resident’s vehicle sustained $200 in malicious damage while parked on East Floyd Baker Boulevard between March 1 and March 2.
According to a police report, an unknown suspect smashed a hole in the rear window of the vehicle parked in the 300 block.
A vehicle parked at Gaffney High School on March 2 sustained an undetermined amount of door damage.
According to a police report, a female suspect and three others approached a 1999 Jeep and tried to enter the vehicle between 12:15 and 12:20 p.m. Police were told the suspect then began to strike the vehicle, damaging the driver side door.
The Gaffney Police Department is investigating a March 1 hit-and-run accident that occurred on Providence Road.
According to a police report, a 28-year-old city woman was stopped at a stop sign at about 8:45 p.m. when a man in a white Ford Ranger rearended her car. The man got out of his truck and asked if the woman was alright and then got back in his truck and fled the scene, according to the police report. The man’s truck likely has heavy front-end damage, according to the report. The victim’s 2000 Honda Accord sustained an estimated $3,000 in damage.
An apparent burglar fled from a McCraw Street property and ran away as a Gaffney Police Department officer responded to a break-in call March 1.
According to a police report, the unknown suspect tried to gain entry to a home in the 100 block between 7:40 a.m. and 7:52 a.m. by opening a screen door and breaking the glass on a side door. Police said a man wearing a light brown hooded sweatshirt ran from the back of the home as an officer approached the scene. The suspect jumped a fence and ran toward Limestone Street. The officer lost sight of the suspect in the area of North Side Drive.
Damage was estimated at $20.
A safe and a firearm were reported stolen following a March 2 burglary on Chestnut Ridge Road, according to the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office.
Police reported that someone forced entry to a home in the 400 block between 2 p.m. and 7:20 p.m. and took a safe that contained $600 in cash and 104 oxycontin pills. Also missing from the home were a .22-caliber rifle that was taken from a closet, as well as assorted gold jewelry and a diamond tennis bracelet. Theft losses were estimated at $2,815.
A hay trailer was reported stolen from a Battleground Road property recently.
According to the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, someone took an old wooden trailer from a property in the 2100 block between Feb. 24 and March 1. The trailer had a two-foot high wooden rail and high fenders over the tires. It was valued at $500.
A tire thief or thieves reportedly caused about $150 in damage to a car parked on Fairfield Drive between March 3 and March 4.
According to the Gaffney Police Department, the thief or thieves apparently tried to remove the wheels from a 2003 Mitsubishi but could not get them off, damaging a center cap in the process.
A purse was reported stolen from a West Floyd Baker Boulevard restaurant.
According to a police report submitted March 4, the theft occurred Feb. 26 between 8 p.m. and 2 a.m. at Applebee’s in the 1500 block. The purse contained a woman’s driver’s license, a check book, $700 in cash and $250 in gift cards. The woman told police she was advised by her bank that her ATM card was used at a Kangaroo convenience store within just a few hours of her purse being stolen. Theft losses were estimated at $1,150.
