MINIVAN MASHED — A minivan headed south on Interstate 85 on Friday afternoon caught fire after it was involved in a crash that ended in a field off Peachoid Road. While the South Carolina Highway Patrol could not be reached for immediate details, a witness said the minivan struck a power pole, breaking the pole, before the vehicle came to rest in a field near the Homestead Lodge. A fire then broke out in the vehicle's engine compartment and was extinguished by arriving police officers. The driver of the vehicle reportedly declined treatment at the scene but was taken by ambulance for medical treatment. (Photo courtesy of Mike Scruggs)
