Limestone-Central Elementary Principal Clay Fowler resigned Thursday for personal reasons.

Fowler had served as principal at the school for nearly three years. He resigned just days before elementary and middle schools take the state’s writing test March 16-17.

Acting superintendent Kim Bagwell and personnel director Carlotta Redish met Friday afternoon with Limestone-Central Elementary teachers to inform them about the change.

Reached late Friday afternoon, Bagwell confirmed Fowler had resigned.

Bagwell said the district will move testing coordinator Kathy Phillips from the district office to Limestone-Central Elementary for the remainder of the school year.

Phillips is the district’s testing and school accountability coordinator. She oversees the district’s Drug Free and School Safety education prevention programs.

Phillips has experience as an elementary principal in county schools. She has worked as a principal at Corinth and Limestone elementaries.

“Kathy has been an elementary principal before and has a lot of experience,” Bagwell said. “We will have staff in the district office help her out with specific things with testing this spring. She will do a good job as principal and will help the school move forward.”
