‘Too Human’ returns to library for encore performance March 18
Roger Bruno and Ellen Schwartz form the duo of “Too Human.” They will perform a Music Sandwichedin concert Thursday, March 18, from 12:15-1 p.m. at the Cherokee County Public Library in Gaffney.
The Cherokee County Public Library will present “Too Human” in an encore performance on Thursday, March 18, from 12:15-1 p.m. in the library’s large conference.
The earthy voice of Ellen Schwartz and the unusual percussion style of Roger Bruno combine to bring new life to classic songs. These two artists cover jazz standards from the American Songbook, but with a fresh interpretation.
Hailing from New York, both Ellen and Roger have had music in their lives from a very early age. Roger was studying accordion by the time he was five and Ellen was harmonizing by the age of three. Over the years they both explored different musical genres and instruments, but what remained constant was singing, the song and the passion.
Their songwriting influences are Paul Simon, Smokey Robinson, Joni Mitchell, Buck Owens, Duke Ellington, Thom Bell, Carole King, Cole Porter and the Gershwins – from jazz and blues to pop to R&B.
With vocals, guitar, percussion and, on occasion, upright bass they have a jazzy/bluesy feel with a lot of heart. Sweet harmonies, unusual arrangements and Roger's famous mouth trombone are the musical elements that frame their performance. But what drives their work is their on-stage chemistry. With high quality musicianship, humor and passion while being totally in sync with each other, they create a strong and intimate atmosphere.
“Please come help the library welcome ‘Too Human’ and get a free lunch provided by the Friends of the Library,” said Kenny Covington, director of public relations and adult programming at the library.
