Eight Republicans paid their fees on the opening of the two-week filing period on Tuesday, according to an e-mail from Cherokee County Republican Party Chairman Steven Blanton.

The candidates include incumbent Cherokee County Councilmen Bailey Humphries, Tracy McDaniel and Charles Mathis, council hopeful Terry Medley, coroner Dennis Fowler, Clerk of Court Brandy McBee, and District 30 State Rep. Steve Moss.

Brooks Allison, who is running for sheriff; and Terry Medley, who is challenging Mathis for his council seat, also filed Tuesday.

The filing period ends Tuesday, March 30.
