BLACKSBURG – Saturday, Feb. 20, was a special day for the 10 lovely contestants in the 2011 Blacksburg Junior Miss Scholarship Program. Each of the young women was able to shine in her own unique way as she strolled down the red carpet for "A Night At The Movies."
Megan Coggins was crowned 2011 Blacksburg's Junior Miss while Savannah Thomas was named first runner-up. Taci Bolin won second runner-up and was recipient of the Scholastic Award. Taryn Workman was presented the "Be Your Best Self" award and Halee Manning received the “Spirit of Junior Miss” award.
Each of the contestants worked very hard, beginning in October of 2009 and continuing until the day of the program. There were friendships and bonds made between the girls that would have never happened had it not been for Junior Miss.
Competing for the 2011 Blacksburg Junior Miss crown were Taryn Workman (kneeling); (first row, l-r) Savannah Thomas, Jac'Quetta White, Kayla Lambert, Megan Coggins, Halee Manning, Austin Batchler, Jade Smith; (standing in back) Taci Bolin and Savanna Greene.
The young women became a special group to the Blacksburg Women's Club, which sponsored the scholarship program.
Megan will represent Blacksburg in the South Carolina Junior Miss Scholarship Program in Lexington, July 16-17, 2011. The winner of the state title will advance to America's Junior Miss in Mobile, Ala., in June, 2011.
“The Blacksburg Women's Club looks forward to working with Megan and her family as she represents our wonderful town,” a spokesman for the club said.
