Lady Indians blast York, 8-1
Gaffney pitcher Julie Sarratt struck out 14 to post a win over York in the region opener on Tuesday.
Two games, two wins for the Class 4A defending state champion Gaffney Lady Indians.
Julie Sarratt struck out 14 batters and allowed four hits and Jessica Ramsey knocked in a couple of runs as Gaffney beat York, 8-1, on Tuesday to open the region.
On Monday, Gaffney blanked Chesnee, 9-0, behind two RBIs and a couple hits by Emily Phillips.
Obviously, though, Tuesday’s region win was foremost in coach Kelly Ellis’ mind.
“It’s great to start the region with a win,” she said.
It’s also great to have Sarratt, who also had a couple of RBIs.
Gaffney opened the scoring with a run in the first inning on Ramsey’s RBI.
In the third inning, Gaffney added two more runs on a couple of passed balls. The Lady Indians took advantage of more passed balls to add a solo tally in the fourth before Sarratt knocked in a run in the fifth.
Gaffney put the game away with three runs in the sixth on RBIs by Celeste Cash, Sarratt and Ramsey.
In the game against Chesnee, Morgan McCraw tripled and Phillips knocked her for a run in the fourth.
In the sixth inning, Katie Patterson had the big hit with a 2-run triple to score Ramsey and Phillips, who singled.
Gaffney, which improves to 7-1 overall and 1-0 in the region, will play Boiling Springs on Thursday.
