Limestone third in cup standings after hoop season

Limestone College is currently in third place in the Conference Carolinas’ Joby Hawn Cup standings after the completion of the basketball season.

The Joby Hawn Cup is awarded to the league institution that shows the highest rating of excellence in all conference sponsored sports. The award standings are tallied after each sport season and then awarded at the end of each year.

The Joby Hawn Cup is awarded in remembrance of former conference commissioner H.C. “Joby” Hawn for his many years of service to the conference.

Limestone currently sits in third place with a rating of .558. The Saints have had much success during the fall and winter seasons. Both basketball teams posted program-best finishes in the conference regular season standings.

The women’s volleyball team finished second in the league tournament as both soccer programs had solid seasons.

The Saints cross country teams had strong performances at the conference meet in October.

Anderson has the lead with the highest rating of .707.

The Trojans gained ground from a successful basketball campaign that saw their women clinch the conference tournament championship and a secondplace regular season finish.

The Anderson men had their most successful year in league basketball as the team finished runner-up to Mount Olive in the tournament championship while also tying for second place with Limestone in the regular season.

Lees-McRae is second with a rating of .571. The Bobcats’ early success has been highlighted by their women’s volleyball regular season and tournament championships, men’s soccer regular season championship, and men’s and women’s cross country runner-up finishes.

Pfeiffer, Queens, and Mount Olive are close behind with ratings of .521, .512, and .502, respectively.

Rounding out the schools in order re Belmont Abbey (.482), Erskine (.350), Barton (.304), Coker (.244), Converse (.233), and St. Andrews (.184).
