Huskey's homer

lifts Indians to win

Corey Crissone went four strong innings and Dylan Huskey had a 2-run homer to power the visiting Gaffney High baseball team to a 5-2 win over Boiling Springs on Thursday.

Huskey had a pair of hits, while Josh Mata, Clay McKowen and Mike Wood all had a hit for the (5-3) Indians. Matt Gault got the save.

Gamecock Club

to meet March 24

The Spartanburg/Cherokee Gamecock Club will have its spring meeting on Wed., March 24 at the Marriott in Spartanburg. Steve Spurrier will be among the speakers. The dinner begins at 6 p.m.

GHS baseball team

The Gaffney High baseball team is co-sponsoring the Battle on the River softball tournament at the Cherokee Ford Complex on Saturday, March 20.

Spring flag football

begins signups

The “7 on 7” adult spring flag football league began on March 14. Entry fee is $200 and cash prize will be awarded. Contact “Dawk” for more info at 864-425- 1852.

Baseball/softball

leagues to register

Registration is underway for the youth baseball leagues for ages 7-8, 9-10 and 11-12 as well as pee wee league for ages 5-6.

The girls' softball league will register for ages 7-8, 9-10 and 11-14. The Babe Ruth League will register for ages 13-15.

All leagues require a birth certicate at time of registration at Sagesport on Floyd Baker, Main Attractions in Blacksburg and the Cherokee Recreation District.

Tryouts for spring

There will be a tryout for a 11 & Under & 12 & Under girls spring travel AAU/YBOA basketball team. Students currently in grades 4-7 can try out. Tryout is Tuesday, March 23 from 5:30- 7 p.m. at Gaffney High School.

Blanton shoots 35

to lead Indians

Ninth-grader E.J. Blanton shot a 35 and Phillip Rogers had a 36 to lead the Gaffney High golf team to a 148-167 victory over Broome at Cherokee National on Wednesday.

Adam Goins had a 38 and Trey Taylor and Chevy Hartzog each shot 39 to round out the Gaffney scoring.
