No. 13-ranked Francis Marion outlasts Limestone, 8-5
The Limestone College baseball team fell to No. 13 Francis Marion 8-5 on Wednesday at Bob Prevatte Field.
The Saints fall to 10- 15 overall and the Patriots improve to 19-5 on the season.
The Patriots got the scoring started with five runs in the top of the first inning and added another run in the second.
The Saints would respond with two runs in the bottom of the third inning to cut the Patriots’ lead to 4 (6-2). Limestone’s Luke Beasley highlighted the inning with a run-scoring triple.
FMU scored two more runs in the fourth for the 8-2 lead.
Limestone would close the margin to 8-5 in the fifth inning, putting up three runs in the frame.
However, this would be as close as the Saints would get as Francis Marion used four relief pitchers in the final four innings to keep Limestone off the scoreboard and take the victory.
Michael Hughey led the Saints at the plate going 3-4 with two runs scored on the day. Beasley went 2-5 with a triple, a run batted in, and two runs scored.
Clint Medlin was tagged with the loss as he allowed 5 runs in 1 inning of work. Marques Kyles had a strong outing in relief throwing 6.2 innings while allowing 3 runs and collecting 2 strikeouts.
George Hardin finished the game on the mound for the Saints pitching the final 1.1 innings, allowing only 1 hit and striking out 2 batters.
